Deviina is especially drawn to character-driven narratives that explore depth, nuance, and human complexity. She hopes to write, direct and edit her own films, where she can see these stories come to life.
Directing the film “Welcome to Canada”
“Reading through the script for the first time, I felt for Hala's character and her frustrations. That's what drew me to the script initially, but it was the final moments of kindness that really connected with me. Coming to Canada as an international student, I was so grateful for the love and care provided by the people around me, from my friends, professors and even strangers. Through the script, I really wanted to emphasize that feeling when you realize that you don't have to go through your struggles alone.
